WP3 Coordinator
SINTEF Energy Research (ER) is part of the SINTEF group, the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia. SINTEF ER is an applied research institute dedicated to creating innovative energy solutions. SINTEF ER has wide expertise in energy research and, for the last two decades, has been involved in projects covering both bioenergy and CCS technologies at international level as project lead (FP6 NextGenBioWaste, FP7 DECARBIT, H2020 CEMCAP) and coordinating at the national level (FME centres CENBIO, BIGCCS, and currently the Norwegian CCS Research Centre (NCCS).
In 2018, together with EGE, SINTEF was awarded the CapeWaste project to investigate the application of greenfield oxy-fuel CO2 capture on a Waste-to-Energy plant at Haraldrud, Norway. With NTNU, SINTEF has been appointed by ESFRI (European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) to coordinate the construction of a Pan-European infrastructure within Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS). SINTEF will be the national sub-project leader for Norway within NEWEST-CCUS and will perform research on the oxy-fuel technology and assess its application as a hybrid method in combination with CO2 membrane capture in collaboration with RETURKRAFT.
Coordinator Profile
Mario Ditaranto received his PhD in experimental study of industrial natural gas – pure oxygen burners in 1998 and is currently Senior Research Scientist at SINTEF. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in combustion science and technology, with more than 15 years on CCS, and has focused on various combustion equipment leading to new combustion hardware and process concepts. He is the Norwegian representative of the IEA TCP for Clean and Efficient Combustion, the main contact for the BioCCUS IEA Special Project (completed in 2017), and he contributed to the Bio-CCS chapter of the 2017 Technology Roadmap of the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF). Mario leads the RCN-funded project CapeWaste and will be the national project leader of NEWEST-CCUS for Norway. SCOPUS H-index: 13.
