NEWEST researchers interviewed in The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies podcast

01/02/2023

Hasan Muslemani and Mathieu Lucquiaud speak with David Ledesma at The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES) about their research on the NEWEST project.

They discuss Europe’s current Waste-to-Energy (WtE) capacity to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and generate power, and its future contribution to ‘negative emissions’ by using carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to capture CO2 from the biogenic content in waste.

Hasan and Mathieu’s work shows that fitting CCS technologies to WtE plants is technically and economically feasible, and estimate that up to 30 million tonnes of negative emissions could be captured per year.
